Homework is an important part of learning and enables students to develop their independence and resilience across the curriculum.
At Winton, we set high expectations of our students. Part of these expectations are ensuring that students are in good routines both at school and at home. Our homework policy is designed to set students up to succeed, develop revision and disciplinary skills and take responsibility for their own learning.
Homework will be set in the class with the expectation students write their homework in their planners. Teachers may also post it on both Google Classroom and Classcharts. Students may be set a wide variety of tasks not limited to:
- Quizzes
- Projects
- Short answer questions
- Essays
- Practice papers
Research shows that regular homework has a positive impact on progress, particularly for secondary school students. Homework linked to classroom work is more effective, especially when students understand its purpose – whether to increase knowledge, develop fluency or apply learning in new contexts.
Teachers will reward students who have completed homework on Classcharts with a ‘homework hero’. Those who have completed outstanding homework, will be able to receive Winton Wonders.

The amount of homework will increase as students progress through the school:
We want every student to feel supported with their homework. Homework should be recorded in student planners. Homework may also be shared on online platforms such as classcharts, google classroom, sparx maths and century tech.
